Frequently asked
VNG questions, answered plainly
What is VNG, and how is it different from ENG?
Videonystagmography (VNG) records eye movements with infrared cameras instead of the skin electrodes used in electronystagmography (ENG). Cameras capture vertical and torsional movement that electrodes miss, with no electrode setup — faster, cleaner, and more complete.
How long does a full test take?
The comprehensive AIB-standard battery — saccades through bithermal calorics — runs in about 15–20 minutes. A focused screening battery is faster.
Does balanceback diagnose the patient?
No. balanceback records, displays, and analyzes eye movements and presents objective findings. The clinician interprets those findings and makes the diagnosis. The platform's job is to give you measurements you can defend.
Can I see the raw data behind a result?
Yes. Every reported value traces back to the raw eye-movement waveform, and a clinician-editable nystagmus editor lets you review and refine every detected beat.
How does it fit our reporting workflow and EHR?
balanceback produces PDF reports today. HL7 ORU and FHIR R4 DiagnosticReport export are on the integration roadmap — we'll tell you exactly where each stands for your environment.
Is it secure enough for a hospital network?
balanceback is built on a HIPAA-minded architecture with encryption at rest, an HMAC-chained tamper-evident audit log, and role-based access control. See the Security & Compliance page for the full procurement scorecard.
